I'm finding customers not knowing they are receiving points once they sign-up as they a points earned email is not sent upon sign-up.

Hi Ben! We appreciate your feedback and hope you're having a good one! 
I'm happy to share with you that this is already an existing feature! Firstly, you have to enable the Sign Up points on your app by going to Programs > Points > Sign Up.
Then, enable the email notification for Points Earned by going to Programs > Emails.
