I think it would encourage sales significantly. It should say the amount of points on the product page, for example "Earn 75 points on this purchase". This way it gives another reason for the buyer to buy and reminds them about the points they can earn. Might even encourage people to sign up/register too.

Possibly using shopify's metafield functionality as then it could be moved around the product page - would need to allow for different messaging when a customer is signed in vs viewing the product as a guest
